Date: Sat, 27 Jun 1998 19:15:44 -0700 From: Rauhnee Ranshanka Subject: !SKFF! KATMIN: Clarifications - The Subject Line *** The Subject Line. Please use this formula for stories, and try to keep it under 36 characters: (NEW/REPOST/EDIT/HELP).(Story Title).(#/#).(rating) NEW: A story that has not be posted to this list or any other list, and does not appear on any webpage yet (posting to list and web at the same time is ok, just don't take a story you've had up for months and send it here as new). The only exception to this is a story that appeared under EDIT or HELP and is now finished. REPOST: This is any story that has been posted to this or another list or has been on a webpage for a while. Reposts should be few, the only real reason I can think of for them is if a story is almost completely rewritten or some other major change is made. The reason for the repost should be stated under Notes in part 0 along with the date of the original post. EDIT: This is a story that is finished, but the author believes there is something majorly wrong with it and wants some serious how-do-I-fix-it feedback. When posting and EDIT story, please include some indication what you think is wrong in the notes section of part 0. HELP: This is an incomplete story that the author very much wants to finish but has a bad case of writer's block on. This is a case of "This is what I have, can anyone give me a direction for an ending? I'm desperate." There are also six Subject heading notes that indicates the post is not a story. KATMIN: These are messages from me about how the list is running and any changes, comments or other things I feel needs to be said as an authority. CHALLENGE: This is a challenge issued to the list to write a particular type of story. The requirements can be as loose or as specific as the challenger wants. When responding to a Challenge, please indicate it in the Notes (what challenge it is a responce to) and Catagory sections of the part 0 post. A challenge will be listed on the weekly update posting for four weeks after initial posting. IDEAS: This can be summed up as "I thought of some story ideas that I don't want to peruse right now, so here they are for everyone else." Detail level can be anything from a single sentence to a lot of info, can can cover anything that could be turned into a plot. It is a free gift to writers out of ideas at the moment from one that has too many to deal with. REQUEST: This is a request for information or help of some kind. Asking for beta readers, episode information, real life data (how fast is Mach 2? What is this kind of fur pattern called?), help naming characters, and any other aid the author may wish. This is where the support structure comes in. When replying to a request for information, if it is *NOT* of a general nature (say a request for a description of a sexual technique or a surgical procedure), please post the appropriate rating (likely R or NC-17) at the end of the Subject line. Thank you. GROUP: This is a story meant to be picked up as a group project (remember Atlantas' War On Us in the Main SWAT Kats Mailing List Archive). Each part should be relatively self-contained, but open for continuation. OT: Off Topic. BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT THESE. I'm too tolerant for my own good, but I do have limits. The penance for an OT post is a short story to be included at the bottom of the message or shortly thereafter and marked as such and we'll be even. Story Title: either the complete title of the story or a chopped version on depending on length (remember to try to keep the entire Subject Line under 36 characters). #/#: The first number is the position in the set of this message. The second is the total number of posts involved in the story. The total number of parts should be how many parts to be posted at the moment, not the total planned. Thus 2/7 would indicate the message is the second of seven in the current post. All stories must have a part 0/? containing the story information in the form at the bottom of this message. Rating: Just so we're all playing by the same book, I've included descriptions and listed out what each ratings means. I know at least a few people out there will likely disagree with it, but deal with it ok. No one has ever been willing to list out what each rating means (and I've asked several times), so I know that at best almost no one has more than a general sense of what they are. I'm spelling it out for everyone so we're all reading from the same page here, but if there are additions or suggestions, I'm happy to take them. PG: Some language and/ or violence, but very little and not graphic. Pretty much a default rating and what is portrayed in the show. PG-17: What you're likely to hear and see on the street of a major city. Any story containing kissing, implied intimacy, or death (unnamed character type). R: Detailed kissing (tongue), none graphic sex (any type), somewhat graphic violence, nudity, detailed insanity, implied rape/ murder/ incest/ bondage/ domination / sado/masochism / legalized crime, and/or low-detail psychology that accepts any of it. Minor character death. NC-17: Detailed sex (any type), graphic violence, and/or none graphic rape/ murder/ incest/ bondage/ domination / sado/masochism, and/or detailed psychology that accepts any of it. Major character death. X: Graphic rape/ murder/ bondage/ domination or sado/masochism. Sick minds take advantage of someone. (Example 1) NEW:Precursor to War.0/3.PG This would be part 0 (the notes) of a new, three part post called Precursor To War that has nothing unacceptable on the street. (Example 2) REPOST:Passion Not of Hate.3/5.NC-17 This would be part 3 of a 5 part post called Passion Not of Hate that contains sexually explicit material, that has been posted before and has a reason to be posted again (by request, because of a major revamp, or the like). The reason should be listed under notes in the part 0 write-up. (Example 3) EDIT:The Future My Tail.1/3.PG-17 This is part 1 of a three part post of the story The Future My Tail that has some warning on it (the PG-17) and is asking for list help in editing it. The story should be complete, just not beta'd or (in the author's opinion), not ready for archiving, but good enough to face a dissection from the group. (Example 4) HELP:The Name Game.2/2.R This is part 2 of a 2 part post of the story The Name Game that has some warnings on it (probably sexually suggestive) that the author believes desperately needs help. To fit in this group and not EDIT, the story should be incomplete and the author desiring help with ideas how to finish it. This is the answer to writer's block. ----------------- Rauhnee Ranshanka; Katmin: MegaKat City Nexus ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This list is sponsored by PEAK,Inc.
