Since other people were giving their ideas, I'll give my own. I think alternate universe/dimention when I think of the SK world. They have basically the same past, only it's slightly warped - because of the abilities of the cats-human merge, they could advance faster (in my opinion), thus having the laser technology, the biological technology, etc. (hey, they might have concentrated most of their efforts on protecting themselves, and that way they wouldn't have the "up to date" cars) Blah blah. But for fanfiction purposes I'll subscribe to Earth in the future...
