Subject: Re: |SKML| Changes Date: Thu, 3 Sep 1998 21:16:28 -0600 From: "Strike" ::drags up a soap box, stands on it, clears throat:: OK guys... I know I'm a little bit guilty of this, but when I get six or seven messages a day about it, I feel it's getting a little out of hand.... Regarding the SKFCO (or rather, the SKEOC)... just because their predecessors were not the greatest of people (understatement, that,) doesn't mean that any of us have the right to heckle, verbally abuse, make fun of, cast doubt upon, or generally be prejudiced against the new crew. I realize that the old SKFCO left a really bad impression of themselves, and I personally didn't like them, but that doesn't mean that we should treat the new club the same way. They're saying that they're a totally new crew, they're changing everything possible (site, look, stuff on it, the way it was run, etc)- they're trying to improve upon their bad hand-me-down image. I know it's not done yet, but I'm holding off all of my criticism until I actually see the new site and give them a chance. A lot of people I know have been openly criticizing them, and it's not even the same people! Give 'em a chance, guys. Letting them know they have a supremely bad image to overcome is one thing- much different than the heckling them and accusing them of being "bad"- before you even give them a chance. I thought we were going to try to keep flaming and negative comments off this mailing list? If I keep getting SKML messages like the ones I've been getting recently in my mailbox, I'm going to unsubscribe. I don't want to read about how prejudiced you are against one another. If you have something derogatory to say to someone, please say it to them privately. It's not only more polite to the person it's intended toward, but it keeps the rest of us out of your arguments, too. And so what if they want people to write to the Tremblays- whether or not they 'really' have the address is not our concern, and we shouldn't argue with them- it should only matter if we do or don't want to write a letter. And if we don't want to, then we won't, and SKML messages from the SKFCO telling us to write aren't going to make us write one. The SKF/ECO is trying to leave us with a good impression- it's not their fault that their predecessors made fools of themselves. It doesn't help if everyone on the list tells them they need laugh tracks to accompany their messages, or constantly reminding them of their current bad image, or points out all the grammatical mistakes or contradictions they make in their emails. Who knows, their site might actually be a lot better, and they're justified in telling us that it's a good site. However, I think that most people are being mean to the SKFCO/SKECO because of their previous image.... I have a suggestion. Since it sounds like they're changing everything else about the site (the way it's run, the officers, the look, the site).... why not change the name, also? I realise that the most obvious name for a SWAT Kats fan club is "The SWAT Kats Fan Club (online or not)", but perhaps they could have a contest, or even suggestions sent here to the list, for a new, catchier name. Perhaps a total break from the SKFCO like that will help people to be more accepting of them.....
