Subject: Re: {SKAD} [Fwd: Senad: OT/ObS: US Govt Alert] Date: Sat, 26 Sep 1998 17:26:06 EDT From: USSWolf@aol.com Reply-To: sk_adult@PEAK.ORG To: sk_adult@PEAK.ORG I am very concerned about the children, and what they see on the net. But I must say that, what the government is doing is wrong. Forcing those who have web sites to either, clean up their sites and keep them clean, or shut the sites down. Unfortunetly, this would be only the frosting on the cake. This would allow the government to censor any web site legit or not, to what they believe is right. This bill could also put restrictions to what we say, such as, no foul languages, words, thoughts, and on, and on, and on. So much for freedom of speech. If I remember correctly, this is very much like 'taxation without representation' which caused the Boston Tea Party. This was not on my ballot the last time we voted. So much for a government for the people and by the people. Now I do agree that warning labels or a web page requiring a name and password, an example would be Adultcheck, is an excellent way to keep children out. But it is STILL the responsibility of the parents to teach the child, watch the child, and restrict the child's viewing on the net. After all the government hides information from us every day, every time they open their mouths. For those who speak the truth, the WHOLE truth, and nothing but the truth, are exempt from that list. Sorry I went a little overboard. Ayyyyyy. Splash. But seriously, I've seen children in movie theaters watching a movie, with more sex, nudity, blood, and gore. Then I have seen on the net. Although last night I did come across a web page that should be removed. It had NO entertainment value, no moral value. Now wait a minute please. The site was not about sex, not about nudity, not about blood, and not about gore. It was so gross, I almost thew up. Now I know how Jake felt, when he discovered the sk adult site, and someone suggesting he was a female. And I liked that story. So I suggest if you are reading this huge note, you get intouch with your senator, and to have him/her vote against this bill. You can get details about it at http://www.sjmercury.com/breaking/docs/040505.htm and then go find out what to do about it at http://www.aclu.org/action/cda2.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Do not meddle in the affairs of a certain dark furred gunner, . for he is cute and is well defended.
